The other day in my Uber, I had the chance to chat with another rider about my love of fashion. And when I talk about something I love - I get really excited. We talked about style, what makes a look great, and how I got into blogging.
I’ll best honest - for a while I struggled with my obsession with style. Focusing so much on the outward appearance seemed a bit superficial at first. But then I realized something very important about myself - I admire art. I find beauty in a rosebush, I could spend hours in a museum, I love the feel of luxe cotton on my skin, I can’t get enough of carefully crafted foods…I learned it’s not superficial at all - it’s really a part of who I am.
And in the process of making more room in my closet for the pieces I love, I ask myself a few key questions when I'm thinking of investing in a piece:
Will I wear this all the time?
I know a lot of girls who wear a piece once then never again - THIS IS NOT WHO I AM. You will 100% see my wearing outfits on repeat, and finding new ways to style pieces I already have.
Is it different from what’s already in my closet?
In the never-ending process of editing my wardrobe, I’ve found there isn’t enough room for pieces that are too similar.
Will it elevate my look?
If you’ve seen any of my posts, you’ll likely know that I really gravitate towards beautiful basics and casual classics…the perfect white tee, a pair of trousers I’ll wear twice a week to work, loafers that will never go out of style…and when I’m wearing these things, I want an accessory that’ll bring these more simple looks to the next level.
Is it something I’ll likely love forever?
While trends change, there are certain pieces that will never feel out of style. The bag featured in this post has been popular for a few years now, and I’ve honestly loved it from the moment I set eyes on it. And even more so now,
I also take into account the amount of time I’ve had a particular item on my mind. I’m not a spur-of-the-moment shopper, and I find myself being more and more intentional in my purchases as I get older. And last year - I found myself saving up for The One - my dream bag - a Mansur Gavriel bucket bag. Let me tell you why I loved this particular bag:
- It’s big enough to fit EVERYTHING. I’m not joking. During Fashion Week, I kept my camera, an extra lens AND a change of shoes in here.
- It’s a classic style
- It has a blush interior (Side note: all my friends in high school KNEW ME for my love of pink shades. My history teacher even wrote in my yearbook that he thought I’d start my own boutique called The Pink Flamingo!)
- It never looses it’s shape. I’ve had this bag for about a year now and it looks just as good as when I first purchased it.
And while I still adore this bag, there are definitely a few others that I’ve been thinking about lately. With Gucci’s fast rise to the top of everyone’s wish list, I’ve been especially smitten with their Marmont line - everything from their belts to their bags - I can’t get enough. See and shop the pieces I’m craving below - which one should I invest in next? And more importantly - which ones are you loving right now?
