I’ll admit - sometimes I live in my own world. Ever since, well, forever, I’ve wanted to live a European lifestyle. Naps at noon? Sign me up. Bread and cheese for dinner? Cool with me. Taking a breather mid-day for your own sanity? Necessary. Skipping out on beach traffic and opting for a cute one-person Fourth of July picnic spread? Duh.
If you know me, you’ll know I find joy in eating, especially good food in beautiful spaces. Once, I made an awesome salad, and went out into my backyard, laid out a blanket in the most gorgeous evening with my dog, and ate my salad and drank a glass of wine. It brought me joy, and shouldn’t we all do things that bring us insurmountable amounts of joy every so often?
That’s why I planned this little impromptu picnic and documented it with South Moon Under photographer, Olivia Reed. It doesn’t have to be this extravagant affair, simple can be so beautiful too. Here’s what made it a totally lovely little afternoon:
A comfortable, soft blanket
This Mexican blanket has been on every picnic we've had this year!
Snackies
Olivia brought us the sweetest cherries ever, but I’d also opt for watermelon in the summer months or a french baguette with cheese? Grapes are an easy-to-pack snack too.
Some cute basket to hold said snackies
I scored this one for $10 at a vintage store, but I’m also loving the ones below!
Camera / iPhone
If you didn’t take a photo of it, did it really happen?
Comfortable clothing
Can you tell there’s a theme here and in my life? COMFORT. I’m all about that life. This Rails top (on sale!!) from South Moon Under is one of my very favorite tops for summer. And this stretchy white denim from Blank NYC is so soft, and expandable so when I eat too many snackies, I’m not feeling constricted.
Flowers
For the Instagram, of course
Sun protection
Lather up on the sunscreen, grab a hat and your favorite pair of sunnies for a pretty afternoon under the sun
Hydration
Although we ALL love a good rosé moment, water is suuuuper important. And is there any cuter way to consume water than with this water bottle from Swell? (Answer: no)
Not pictured: A good book or magazine and some tunes
See - it’s as simple as that! If you’re planning a Fourth of July picnic, tag me in your Instagram photos! Can’t wait to see them! And happy 4th of July!!
