I was pursuing Instagram the other day, when I noticed something that caught my eye.
One of my favorite, most relatable and fun-loving bloggers, Emily of Stiletto Beats, had posted a photo of black shoes, white shoes, and red shoes.
If what happened next was a cartoon, there would have been heart bubbles bursting out of my eyes.
I read on.
She said, “it’s crazy how much a person can change from day to day, season to season…change is great. Learn to embrace it in all aspects of your life.”
I reflected for a moment on my own life, from a style perspective.
For years, I’ve been so drawn towards classic, neutral styles. At work, I’m typically found in a black skirt or trouser with a white blouse. It almost never deviates.
But lately, when I’ve been seeing pops of red, or metallic boots, or mustard yellow, I’ve been totally drooling over it. At this moment, I want nothing more than to own a cozy, bright red sweater tucked into a pair of high-waisted, light-wash denim. With white mules. Even though mules look terrible on my feet. It’s one of those things I can’t really explain.
So while I think having a uniform and set style standards is great, I definitely think there’s room for some playing and experimenting. Isn’t that what what makes a style evolution so great? The ‘trying new things’ and discovering a bit more about what you love?
This Kate Spade is the perfect example. I got it from Rent the Runway for a friend’s engagement party and it was PERFECTION. The blue and white made me feel like I was going back to my Greek roots (more on how travel has impacted my style here!) And - maybe my favorite feature of the dress - the SPIN FACTOR. This dress is a DREAM to dance in. I knew there’d be dancing at the party (and guys, I adore dancing) so I wanted a dress that was easy to dance in, had breathability, and the best spinning money can rent.
All that to say, if you find me sporting some crazy new trends this season, bear with me! I certainly don’t expect to be switching out my neutrals anytime soon, but if I find a few colors outside of black, white, off-white, and navy, don’t sue me. ;)
