Is it just me or do you guys use any event as an excuse to get dressed up?! My day-to-day office attire is what I might describe as, “elevated minimalist,” which I love, but for bigger events, I like to do a little EXTRA.
When I got an invite to 142nd Preakness Stakes from The Stronach Group at the Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, I RSVP’d yes and started looking for a new outfit within the same minute. As one of the big three races (first being the Kentucky Derby, then Preakness Stakes, and lastly Belmont Stakes, I knew I wanted something NEW. (Isn’t that always how it works?)
A few years back, I attended the Virginia Gold Cup, but my style was significantly different back then. I lived in chevrons and my Frye boots. All of which are FINE THINGS if that’s your vibe. But now I’m into things that are a bit simpler in terms of style, with small pops of patterns here and there.
And after spotting the new Draper James collection in their NYC showroom a couple weeks ago, I knew they’d have the perfect pieces that exude ALL the sweet, Southern charm I want to flaunt at the race this weekend.
Another thing I knew about dressing for Preakness? It's likely going to be H O T. This top and skirt are both super breathable, and I'm thinking that open toed shoes will be a must. Since the look can be more casual on its own, I added some of my favorite metallic accents (Sophie Blake jewelry, of course) to up the fancy pants factor. That, married with a bright lip, and I'm all ready for my Black Eyed Susan. ;)
I'm also excited to share that I'll be doing a Snapchat (username: @draperjames) and Instagram Stories takeover with Draper James on Saturday! Tune into their pages to get ALL the behind-the-scenes action. See ya there!
