I don't know about you, but each year I start off the holiday season feeling super ambitious, ready to conquer the sales, and get gifts for everyone on my list ahead of schedule. While it doesn't always work out that way, this year, I wanted to give myself the BEST chance of succeeding and we decided to stay in DC for a night so we could fully take advantage of shopping at my favorite local spots in Georgetown. (It's a bit harder to get into DC on the weekends when you live about an hour west of the city!)
We arrived at The Melrose Georgetown Hotel on Saturday afternoon, and after seeing the place, I decided shopping could wait! We got into enjoying our stay RIGHT away.
Upon arrival, they have a valet that allows you to come and go into the garage as you please during your stay - something I hadn't experienced before! The lobby set the tone for our stay, with glamorous decor and fruit infused water to welcome us. Even though I grew up in the DC area, I never got the chance to live IN the District, so it felt nice to feel like a local for the night.
Customer service was superb, which is something that is VERY, VERY important to me. Everyone made us feel right at home.
After a breezy check in, we headed up to our suite, overlooking Pennsylvania Avenue and Washington Square Park. I did what any normal did upon entering the room, and checked out the beds. A+++! They were wildly comfortable, another thing I value when staying somewhere.
We had a few hours to spare before dinner, so we headed outside to catch the last bit of golden hour outside the hotel for a few photos. The hotel architecture reminded me of something out of our trip to Paris, or a street in NYC, so it made for a very fun backdrop for the shoot.
After photos, I got into relaxation mode and took a nice, warm bath (which was very clean as well - something I haven't always experienced in hotels!) One of my favorite features of the tub? They carry Molton Brown products - one of my favorites! (I even had it on my birthday list this past year!)
Finally, it was time to get ready for dinner. (Is eating the best part of the day for anyone else?!) I wore a pretty blue knee-length dress I found at the Sandro outlet in Paris and it's become such a go-to of mine.
Dinner was downstairs at their in-house restaurant, Jardenea. We started the meal with the summer harvest brussel sprout (which had truffle essence and was maybe one of my top 10 favorite things I've ever eaten) and their pulled curd mozzarella salad (also divine!) For the main course, hubby got the Juniper Spiced Lamb Rack (which he said was one of the juiciest, tastiest he's ever had) and the chef made me a special vegetable pasta which was rich and creamy - perfect for the cooler seasons. While stuffed, we couldn't skip out on dessert so I ordered the carmel brÃŧlÃĐe which was so incredible!
After dinner, I waddled (hubby walked normally because he's a regular human) back to the room, where we cozied up in the super plush bed and watched some holidays movies on TV.
In the morning we ordered a little room service! It's one of my favorite things to do in a hotel because you can just relax and not have to look presentable for any reason. Plus I'm ALWAYS hungry RIGHT when I wake up. I'm a bit of a grumpy pants if I don't eat within an hour of waking up (preferably 30 mins!) So thank goodness Melrose does their room service RIGHT.
Food arrived right one time (you can request breakfast the night before and put down your preferred time slot!) Their egg white omelet was honestly one of the best breakfast items I've had - I'm usually a yolk" kinda girl but I didn't even miss it. And when I requested some extra toast, they had no problem bringing it up right away.
While we had originally planned to do some early shopping, I leisurely got ready instead, and just soaked in as much relaxing as I could. There's just something about being outside your home, in another place, that has this magical way of forcing you to really, truly relax. And when a place does it as well as the Melrose Georgetown Hotel - well, you soak it in while you can.
Thank you so much to Melrose Georgetown Hotel for hosting our little staycation - we can't wait to return!
