A few weeks ago, I wrote all about how to bring that European lifestyle into your life. I waxed poetic on drinking wine on your porch, and really, truly soaking in the sun (with a good sunscreen, of course!)
A big part of my entire philosophy on having the European state of mind is togetherness. I adore spending time with the people I love over good food. There’s nothing better in my mind. Growing up with lots of Greek family members, it became clear VERY EARLY ON that the very best foods would always be a part of our family gatherings.
And so, as I’ve gotten older, I too have become enamored by helping provide great food at get-togethers and not just partake in the eating (although I am very, very good at that part!)
We had a Labor Day picnic with the hubby’s family last weekend, and I brought my new favorite obsession to share with everyone, Moorenko’s Ice Cream. They’re based in Silver Spring too, and as you know, I have a big passion to support local - and honestly - it’s usually much tastier when it’s local! (It was so good, in fact, that I had a hard time sharing it!)
I picked up three flavors of Moorenko's Ice Cream for the party (vanilla, salted caramel with praline, and my personal favorite - cookie overload), but they had a ton of different flavors at the local Giant near our house. Next time I want to try bittersweet chocolate, black raspberry chocolate, honey lavender, creme fraiche, wild burberry and balsamic & fig (and those aren’t even all the flavors they offer!)
As you know, over the past few years, I’ve really focused on eating clean, wholesome foods, so I adore that Moorenko's focuses on providing the highest quality ice cream without adding in a ton of preservatives or additives. The whole company started because the founder, Susan Soorenko, wanted to find the purest, most delicious ice cream to feed her kids…and when she didn’t find anything that checked those boxes, she decided to create her own.
And trust me, you can taste a difference between this and your run-of-the-mill ice cream brand. Is it because it’s made with so much love? Is it because they use top knotch ingredients? Or is it the fact that their ice cream is crafted in small batches with the highest levels of quality control? If you ask me, it’s all of the above.
