5 Dresses You Need in Your Closet This Summer

If you're looking through your closet, and trying to figure out what's missing, I'm here to help! Below are 5 dresses you need in your closet this summer:

The Linen Dress

When temps start souring above 90 degrees, there’s nothing better to wear than linen. It lets the air flow through, and it’s one of summer’s chicest fabrics. If it gets a little wrinkled, don’t sweat it (literally though.) I usually give it a good run over with the steamer before I leave the house for good measure - to show I put forth a bit of effort.

The Breezy Throw-on-and-go Dress

One thing I’d been missing a few weeks ago was a breezy throw-on-and-go dress? It’s usually made of cotton, unfussy, and most importantly, comfortable. It’s a piece you’d throw on when you’re invited to something fun (aka something that could end up on Instagram) and want to look put together. It’s something you can dress up or down, and wear for multiple different occasions. This white dress from French Connection was my throw-on-and-go dress this past weekend. I wore it to the beach and then to dinner later. I’d wear it with sneakers for a day walking around the city, but would dress it up for dinner with heels and a clutch.

A Maxi Dress

Planning a trip to a winery or a family picnic? A maxi is the perfect dress! From the joy of knowing you can bend down to play with your nieces and nephews without flashing the whole family to the feeling of relief of not having to shave your legs. LOL kidding. Or am I? A maxi dress never goes out of style and can be worn Spring through Fall. In the summers, you can wear with some layered necklaces and sandals, then when Fall swings around, a chunky knit and boots.

A Slip Dress

There’s something so alluring about the ease of a slip dress. I have about 5 sitting in my closet I love them so much. They’re perfect for date night, or for when you want to feel chic and fashion forward. They’re for when you want to look like you just threw something on real quick. When I first tried on a slip dress, I asked the sales associate, “where am I ever going to wear this?” She responded, ‘everywhere.’ And she was right.

An Occasion Dress

I love to stock my closet with a couple of pretty occasion dresses for weddings, fancy dinners and special events. While I use Rent the Runway ALL. THE. TIME., I like to have one on hand as a backup. I found this gorgeous lace Ganni dress from Lynn Louisa last year. It's such a classic style and looks great with a slip dress underneath, or could also be styled over denim and a black tank. Versatility is always key.

Ok - how many of those do you have in your closet? If you’re missing a few, don’t worry! Mixology has a ton of cute options. I’m giving away $50 to shop there so you can cross another dress off your list!
