Kate Spade Saturday Opens in Georgetown

This past weekend, all the people of Georgetown rejoiced at the newest addition to M Street - Kate Spade Saturday. Across the street from Kate Spade, Saturday offers more affordable and slightly edgier items than their traditional counterpart. 

I was able to snap a few pics of their new location at a preview event on Friday with Tammy from A Loyal Love, but you really need to see the store for yourself. Complete with a design-your-own-handbag station, calf hair booties, golden baubles, painted polka dotted goodness and a charing station for our ever-dying smart phones - this store is almost too good to be true. Lady Dinner

A few weeks ago, I was asked photograph a friend’s dinner party at her beautiful DC row house. At the mention of tres leeches cake, I couldn’t say yes fast enough! 

The result was just stunning. Mariella of Splendor Styling did an incredible job styling the scene. Candles everywhere, flowing champagne, the prettiest table setting and the most delicious meal prepared by my good friend, Jessica with Adventures of a Repatriate. While I couldn’t eat the chicken (#vegetarianproblems) I definitely had an extra piece of cake at the end to make up for it. 

Big, huge thanks to Carlis of Spicy Candy for being the brainchild of this fun dinner - we were lucky to have our dinner sponsored by Bookalokal, this awesome site connecting people who love dinner parties! If you’re looking to plan a dinner party and need a little help, I’d highly recommend them! Violet Boutique loaned us a few dresses and She’s Unique dressed us in their prettiest jewels, so even the photographer got to feel like a princess that night!

Free People Fall Style Party Recap

If you attended the Free People Fall Style Party a few weeks ago, you know a multitude of things:

1. You know that The Fashionably Broke girls (Nat and Erika) can host one HECK of a party and that Jessica makes one HECK of a party spread. 

2. You know that the Free People at the Pentagon City Mall is literally the best. They carry Free People’s line of shoes and under-awesomeness so just do yourself a favor and GET THERE STAT.

3. Fall is full of cozy goodness, frilly socks, lacy details, plaid perfection and wool hats galore and I JUST REALIZED I’M NOT EVEN READY FOR THIS AWESOMENESS. But that’s ok because Free People is. (Dying over these boots and also this flannel top Natalie wore!)

The Style Party at Free People

Save the date for a super fun event happening at the Free People in The Fashion Centre at Pantagon City TOMORROW! Got plans? Cancel them. This will be way more fun.

One of my favorite DC-area bloggers, Natalie and Erika of The Fashionably Broke will be hosting an evening filled with refreshments, giveaways and photo booth fun. The two mega babes will also be doing styling sessions at the event - Lord knows I need help when it comes to layering (“so there’s more to layering than throwing on a chunky knit sweater?!”) Apparently there is. Free People is Fall ready and I can’t wait to get my chubby little hands all over their cool-weather goodness.

Cirque du Soleil Visits DC in Amaluna + A GIVEAWAY

When I was young, I loved live theatre. I loved watching it, but I REALLY loved participating in it. From 4th-8th grade, I was in our school’s drama club. I did everything from playing the head angel in Jesus’ birth at my church to the (ahem, glamourous) jester in the Emperor’s New Clothes (which BTW the founder of Mars Vida also appeared in AT THE SAME SCHOOL AS ME! I need to find photos ASAP!) 

As we walked into the Cirque du Solei’s Big Tent for Amaluna at National Harbor, I felt that nostalgic happiness I felt before a show. Cast members hurrying around, the lights dining and finally - show time.

The show starts out as a quirky lizard-animal (and many other characters) interact with audience members, stealing their popcorn and throwing it at gleefully screaming children. Although I’m not sure how I’d feel if one of them stole MY POPCORN, it was highly entertaining watching them devour someone else’s. 

What followed were aerial acrobatics, balancing acts, gymnastic marvels (by ex NCAA gymnasts - ya, they were that good) and my personal favorite, a little water dance in a pool onstage. It was a beautiful showcase of girl power, as the show is based on a mythical goddess who is celebrating her coming-of-age ceremony. Of course, she falls hopelessly in love with a handsome sailor who was washed aboard her island, but not before demonstrating her strength and women powers to all who watched in awe. I was on the edge of my seat (mouth wide open, mind you) the entire show, completely mesmerized. And the live music with the killer all-girl band? I’d go back just to hear them again.

I don’t want to give too much away, but SPOILER ALERT: It’s really good. And I mean GOOOOD (check out the preview video!) Plus, I can’t say I hate the 70% female cast they employed for Amaluna (#girlpower) to honor the work and voices of women everywhere. 

Tickets are also already selling out for the show, so I’d recommend getting them soon if you want to see the magic for yourself. Their last performance is September 21, and tickets range from $50-$150 so get them while you can!
